Read Around the Isle™

Reading Literacy + STEM Discovery

A Signature Initiative of Caribbean With Purpose

Where reading becomes discovery.

Supporting students in Grades 1–3 through reading literacy, STEM discovery, and meaningful educational partnerships.

  • Read.
  • Understand.
  • Discover.
  • Create.
  • Grow.

Read Around the Isle™

Read Around the Isle™ brings reading literacy and STEM discovery together for students in Grades 1–3—strengthening comprehension and reading confidence while using ideas from books to inspire questions, exploration, problem-solving, and discovery.

Age-appropriate books, guided discussion, and corresponding hands-on STEM experiences are intentionally connected.

Reading ambassadors lead expressive read-alouds and guided conversation. Students then carry those ideas into hands-on exploration.

How reading becomes discovery

Five moments in every classroom experience.

  1. 01

    Read

    Engage with age-appropriate literature.

  2. 02

    Understand

Strengthen vocabulary, comprehension, sequencing, listening, and communication.

  3. 03

    Discover

Ask questions, make observations, and connect ideas from reading to the world.

  4. 04

    Create

Explore ideas through hands-on STEM, creativity, experimentation, and problem-solving.

  5. 05

    Grow

Build reading confidence, curiosity, and continued enthusiasm for learning.

Why Reading Literacy + STEM?

Two pillars. One learning experience.

Reading literacy and STEM discovery are both intentional outcomes. Comprehension, vocabulary, and reading confidence grow alongside curiosity and exploration, so young learners think:

  • I read about it.
  • I wonder why.
  • Let’s find out.

That is where reading becomes discovery.

  • A story about plants can become an exploration of how things grow.
  • A story about weather can lead to an experiment.
  • A character solving a problem can inspire an engineering challenge.
  • Patterns within a story can become a mathematics activity.

The heart of Read Around the Isle™

Students in Grades 1–3

Young learners are at the center of the initiative.

Our goal is to help young learners:

  • Readwith confidence.
  • Understandwhat they read.
  • Discoverthrough STEM.
  • Createthrough curiosity.
  • Growas successful students and future leaders.

Supporting Jamaican classrooms

We support the classroom. We do not replace it.

Jamaican teachers and school leaders remain the educational professionals leading their classrooms. Caribbean With Purpose works alongside partner schools to provide complementary literacy and STEM resources:

  • Books
  • Literacy Activities
  • STEM Experiences
  • Educational Materials
  • Learning Resources

Visiting participants enter as supporters and learners—never as replacement teachers.

  • Local educators lead.

  • We partner.

  • Students benefit.

Read Around the Isle™ AND Book Cove™

The experience and the environment.

These two initiatives are intentionally connected.

Read Around the Isle™

Creates the educational experience.

Read • Discuss • Explore • Experiment • Discover

Students engage directly with books, literacy activities, and hands-on STEM experiences.

Book Cove™

Creates a sustainable learning environment.

Books • Literacy Resources • STEM Materials • Technology • Discovery Space

Continued access to the resources that keep reading and discovery going.

Continued opportunity to learn

Read Around the Isle™ creates moments of active learning and discovery.

Book Cove™ provides the environment where that curiosity keeps growing.

The program experience ends.
The opportunity for discovery continues.

Education partnership pathways

Participate responsibly in the mission.

Read Around the Isle™ also creates opportunities for students and educational institutions to participate responsibly in CWP's educational mission.

High School Service Education

Serve. Learn. Lead.

High school students can participate as reading ambassadors and STEM activity partners while developing leadership, communication, teamwork, cultural awareness, and global citizenship.

Participants serve as supporters and learners—not classroom teachers.

College & University Partnerships

Jamaica as a Global Classroom™

Colleges and universities can connect international education and experiential learning with literacy, STEM, educator development, and future educator preparation.

Participants enter Jamaican schools as learners and supporters within responsible educational partnerships.
