Service With Purpose
Service with purpose. Learning through experience.

Educational Service Through Read Around the Isle™
Meaningful service. Real educational purpose.
Through Read Around the Isle™, high school participants support reading literacy and STEM engagement for students in Grades 1–3.
- Reading Ambassadors
- STEM Activity Partners
- Service-Learners
- Positive Role Models
Working alongside Jamaican educators, participants may support read-alouds, comprehension and literacy activities, hands-on STEM experiences, and meaningful student engagement.
Local educators lead.
Students support.
Everyone learns.
High school participants do not enter classrooms as teachers. They participate as service-learners and supporters within established educational environments.
More Than Volunteer Hours
Quality of engagement over quantity of hours.
Meaningful service is about more than accumulating volunteer hours.
Students are encouraged to arrive prepared, participate respectfully, work collaboratively, reflect on what they experience, and understand the purpose behind the work they support.
Leadership can begin with service.
- Leadership
- Communication
- Teamwork
- Responsibility
- Adaptability
- Confidence
- Problem-Solving
- Cultural Awareness
- Global Citizenship
Jamaica as a Classroom
Cultural immersion is part of the education.
Learning extends beyond the partner school.
Students have opportunities to experience Jamaica's people, history, culture, traditions, environment, and community through appropriate cultural, historical, recreational, and group experiences.
Service provides connection.
Culture provides context.
Experience creates understanding.
Flexible in structure. Consistent in purpose.
Each experience can be developed around the participating school's goals, schedule, group size, travel parameters, and student needs while remaining rooted in:
- Educational Service
- Leadership Development
- Cultural Learning
- Global Learning
Specific dates, program length, accommodations, transportation, service schedules, and itineraries are developed for each participating group.
The educational purpose does not change.
Prepare. Experience. Reflect.
Service begins before arrival.
Reflection turns experience into learning.
Students are encouraged to consider what they observed, what they learned, what challenged them, and how the experience may influence the way they approach service and leadership in the future.
The goal is to return home able to say more than:
“I went to Jamaica.”
- 01
I learned.
- 02
I served.
- 03
I listened.
- 04
I grew.
